Sustainable Travel Hacks
Posted by Ryan Thompson onORRA's mission to reduce your carbon footprint doesn't stop at buying our products —it continues as we travel and explore the world. These sustainable travel hacks can be implemented all at once or one by one; whichever way fits your travel lifestyle!
1. STAY LOCAL
A great way to reduce your carbon footprint is to stay at local hostels and Airbnbs. Big chain hotels often do not have green initiatives in place, so your best option would be locally-run hostels and private rooms/homes where amenities and demands are lower per person staying.
2. HOTEL HACKS
If staying local is not an option, try looking for eco-green hotels that make sustainability a priority. Other hacks include bringing your own toiletries (shampoo & conditioner bars), and skipping the sheet/towel changes throughout your stay.
3. PACK A CAPSULE WARDROBE
A capsule closet is a great way to pack lighter while also utilizing your closet to its fullest potential. A capsule closet will contain closet essentials (blue jeans, white tee, black skirt, denim jacket, etc) and the goal is for all items to be interchangeable to create many outfits out of just one item.
TIP: Neutral colors like black, white, beige, denim blue are easiest to match with others)
4. GET A DIRECT CONNECTING FLIGHT
A direct connecting flight uses less fuel whereas a flight with layovers will use double the amount to take-off and land in your destination. It is also cool to keep in mind many airlines are now shifting to zero carbon emission flights in the near future. Here's a list of those airlines.
